Abdullah Shafique joins Ruturaj Gaikwad at Yorkshire for County stint
Yorkshire on Monday confirmed the signing of Pakistan international Abdullah Shafique on a short deal. The 25-year-old will play in Yorkshire’s next two County Championship fixtures. He will also be available for 4 T20 Blast games.
His signing comes after the team also confirmed the additional of Ruturaj Gaikwad. The India international was already in England featuring for India A against the England Lions. He joins the County side for the Championship and will feature in the One Day Cup.
Both Gaikwad and Shafique could feature together in Yorkshire’s next fixture against Nottinghamshire on June 22. They suffered a 163 run defeat in their last game, which Bairstow missed due to IPL commitments.
Ruturaj Gaikwad and Abdullah Shafique will play in the same team just over a month after recent tensions on the border. Escalations and drone strikes earlier in May saw both IPL and PSL suspended for safety reasons. Shafique since was part of the Lahore Qalandars side who lifted the PSL title. Gaikwad missed most of the season due to an injury with CSK finishing rock bottom.
