Blue Jays’ Yimi Garcia begins rehab assignment in Florida Complex League

Yimi Garcia is one step closer to his major-league return.

The Toronto Blue Jays relief pitcher began a rehab assignment on Monday, pitching one inning of scoreless ball in the Florida Complex League. He allowed one hit to the first batter he faced, but then struck out the next three.

Of his 14 pitches, 11 were strikes.

Garcia has been out of the Jays’ lineup for a month while dealing with shoulder impingement.

The right-hander’s last appearance for Toronto came on May 22 in an extra-innings win against the San Diego Padres. Garcia pitched one inning, allowing one hit and no runs through the four batters he faced.

He’s made a total of 21 appearances for the Blue Jays in 2025, holding a 0-2 record and 3.15 ERA during that span. Through 20 innings pitched, he’s posted three saves while allowing 11 hits and seven earned runs on 24 strikeouts.

Garcia signed with Toronto ahead of the 2025 campaign on a two-year, $15-million deal. It’s his second stint with the club after spending 2.5 seasons with the team between 2022-24.

The Blue Jays return to action on Tuesday to begin a three-game set against the Cleveland Guardians. Toronto enters the road series with a 41-36 record, four games back of the New York Yankees atop the AL East division.
