Mark Consuelos shaves head, debuts new hair on ‘Live’ for secret TV role

From stripping down to a wrestling singlet on Live to letting his crotch set off an airport security machine, Mark Consuelos is always down for an aesthetic stunt — this time, the visual glory revolves around his freshly shaved head.

The morning show personality and actor debuted a new hairstyle on Monday’s episode, after he and cohost-spouse Kelly Ripa returned from a week-long vacation to Switzerland.

“Do not adjust your TV screens; yes I got my hair cut,” the 53-year-old said, just as Ripa began caressing his buzzed head on the air.

“It’s like a chinchilla,” Consuelos quipped, to which Ripa responded: “I’ve never rubbed an actual chinchilla, but I suspect this is what it feels like. We should give everyone in the audience an opportunity.”

Ripa later told the crowd that the new hair wasn’t her husband’s choice, but rather a requirement for a new, secret TV role the star recently booked.

“I do this every couple of years, I’ve been doing it since we got married,” Consuelos added. “I got a TV job, a role in a pilot and they said, ‘Will you cut it short?’ And I go, ‘How short? Military?’ And they go, ‘Military!'”

The actor — who recently appeared on Riverdale and The Girls on the Bus — confirmed that he’s not actually playing anyone in the military, but wouldn’t detail anything else about the part outside of the fact that it was shot in Atlanta earlier this year.

Elsewhere on the morning TV show circuit, The View‘s Sunny Hostin made headlines last week when she debuted a new, short hairstyle on the air — which fellow panelist Alyssa Farah Griffin described as “giving Bond villain.”
