Ben Platt Brings Surprises & Elements of His Broadway Residency to L.A. Show on Honeymind Tour | Ben Platt, Laufey, Music | Just Jared: Celebrity News and Gossip
Ben Platt has been on tour for the last month all across the U.S. and he gave his hometown crowd a special show!
The 30-year-old Emmy, Grammy, and Tony-winning actor and singer made his Greek Theatre debut during a stop on the Honeymind Tour on Saturday (July 20) in Los Angeles.
Before going on tour, Ben performed an 18-show residency at the Palace Theatre on Broadway and he revised the show for the tour. While he cut songs like Judy Garland covers “The Boy Next Door” and “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” from the tour, he added them back in for the L.A. show.
Ben also surprised the crowd with guest performer Laufey, who sang a rendition of “My Funny Valentine” with him.
“I really love when classic and things that are considered retro or adult are brought into the mainstream for the young people and reinvented. And this person has carved out such an incredible lane for herself. She is a very impressive musician and vocalist. Her album won a Grammy this past year and I’m just such a fan and admirer and I’m so grateful she decided to come and sing. The unspoken theme of the show is love songs so I asked her if she’d sing one of the most classic love songs with me and she agreed,” Ben said while introducing Laufey to the stage.
