BBC Player Set To Launch On India’s Tata Play Binge
EXCLUSIVE: Luther, Joan and David Attenborough are set for outings on Indian streamer Tata Play Binge.
BBC Player, the international streamer from BBC Studios, is joining the likes of Apple TV+, JioHotstar, Prime Video and Lionsgate Play on the Tata aggregator platform.
The streamer offers BBC shows such as Luther, Pride and Prejudice, Doctor Who and Top Gear, along with acquired series including Grand Indian Hotel, Citizen Khan, Mr. Bean and The Great British Bake Off. Planet Earth III, naturalist and broadcaster Attenborough’s latest blue-chip natural history series, will also be offered, along with Jamie Oliver: Cooking For Less, JoJo and Gran Gran and Junior Bake Off among others.
“This partnership underscores our commitment to bringing the best of global content to our viewers, all in one place,” said Pallavi Puri, Tata Play’s Chief Commercial and Content Officer. “BBC Studio’s premium storytelling and rich library of highly celebrated shows perfectly complement our growing content roster, and we are confident that our users will love this addition.”
BBC Player is already available in India through Prime Video as an add-on, but Stanley Fernandes, BBC Studios’ Vice President of Distribution, South Asia, called the deal a “new chapter in our partnership with Tata Play as we expand into their OTT aggregation space, building on our strong collaboration.”
For BBC Studios, the news comes nearly three months after it stopped producing content in India amid market contraction and other pressures. Banijay Asia has taken over the BBC catalog in the country and will produce new shows going forwards.
