BBC & NBC Seek Next Show After ‘The Traitors’, ‘Destination X’

The next show from the mega partnership that has brought The Traitors and Destination X to the world will be original British IP, the BBC and NBCUniversal have said.
As Destination X rolls out on both sides of the Atlantic, the pair of networks have issued a call for the next show from their “pioneering unscripted development partnership,” and this one will be created in the UK.
”The two broadcasters are once again joining forces to seek out the next global unscripted hit format,” said a callout from the BBC and NBCUniversal today to the British production sector. “Independent UK production companies are invited to pitch original ideas designed to captivate audiences on both sides of the Atlantic, whether hubbed or co-produced through other collaborative production models. ”
The Traitors has been a huge hit on either side of the pond for the BBC and NBC streamer Peacock respectively, but the show produced by Studio Lambert, which has since sold to dozens of territories, was created in the Netherlands. Destination X, which launched on Peacock in May and is being given its BBC premiere next week, comes from Belgium. The next show off the rack will be the first to have been created in the UK.
Details on the process, which will likely attract the great and good of the British production sector, have just been uploaded to the BBC website. The process is being overseen by Michael Jochnowitz, Editor of Unscripted (Interim) and Jason Emerton, Head of Business, Unscripted for the BBC, along with Ed Havard, Senior Vice President, Alternative Programming and Steven Bercovitch, SVP, Business Affairs from NBCUniversal.
Syeda Irtizaali, BBC Director of Unscripted (Interim), and Havard, said: “The BBC/NBCUniversal partnership has been a thrilling ride so far, bringing The Traitors and Destination X to our audiences in the UK and US. Now we’re after the next tranche of ambitious, groundbreaking ideas which move the creative dial again. The relationship between the BBC and NBCUniversal has been extraordinarily innovative and our shared DNA creates a rare opportunity for British producers to develop at scale for two of the largest broadcast ecosystems in the global market. So, we encourage indies to challenge us with bold and original thinking that builds on the success of our global hits and helps us create the next one.”
