Audrey and Mary Butted Heads On Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Season 1 Episode 10 And It Was All Too Relatable
Critic’s Rating: 4.8 / 5.0

It was the battle of the grandmothers on Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Season 1 Episode 10, and it was as petty and ridiculous as I expected.
A stupid conflict over a photo in an album spiraled into two generations of McAllisters and Coopers going to bed angry, and not even Pastor Jeff could save the day.
Georgie eventually put his foot down, but there’s a significant chance that Mary and Audrey’s mutual hatred of each other will eventually tear their children apart.
Georgie And Mandy Needed To Present A United Front And They Did The Opposite
Audrey and Mary were both being petty and selfish, and it wasn’t going to stop until someone insisted they call a truce.
By the time Georgie did, it was too little, too late, especially because he and Mandy let the fight affect them.
Their mothers were locked into a sick competition to try to be the only grandmother who was relevant. When that kind of crap happens, the rest of the family needs to stand united.
I’m not saying that Audrey and Mary were consciously trying to be manipulative, but it doesn’t matter what their intentions were. They sucked everyone else into their drama, with disastrous results.
These kinds of petty arguments tend to end up that way. The people who are angry about nonsense tend to want everybody on their side and nobody on the other person’s side.
As Georgie and Mandy learned the hard way, that causes unnecessary conflicts between people who had nothing to do with the original problem.
Unfortunately, I can relate all too well to this situation.
I grew up with a grandmother who was that petty, but my parents usually stood up to her as a team, so it that limited the drama, even if it wasn’t always pleasant dealing with her nonsense.
These overbearing, petty mothers and mothers-in-law are all over TV land, so I’m sure this is not an uncommon experience in real life.
It’s rare to have one that’s this relatable, though.
This isn’t a problem that’s going to go away anytime soon, either. Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Season 1 has established Audrey as the clear antagonist, and she and Mary are two peas in a pod.
Georgie knows how difficult his mother can be. Mandy knows how difficult hers can.
If this marriage is going to have any chance of success, the couple needs to figure out how to navigate that without getting sucked into the drama.
Although Jim is too conflict-averse for my taste, he knows how to handle his wife. By staying neutral most of the time, he’s able to make an impression on the few occasions he does stand up to Audrey.
Mandy and Georgie need to come up with strategies of their own.
It’s bad enough that Audrey hates Georgie without her conflicts with Mary spilling over into Georgie and Mandy’s relationship.
Humor Spotlight: Georgie Giving Audrey The Benefit of The Doubt
The funniest aspect of Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage Season 1 Episode 10 was that Mandy and Georgie’s fight revolved around Mandy taking Mary’s side while Georgie took Audrey’s.
That turned the usual situation on its head. You’d think that a couple fighting over their parents’ behavior would each take their own mother’s side!
It’s understandable that they didn’t, though.
They each know their own family’s dysfunctionality, so they can see clearly why someone else was annoyed by it.
The Women’s Pettiness Was A Sign Of Great Writing
During the first half of Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Season 1 Episode 10, I found Audrey insufferable, but she deserves credit for trying to apologize.
Mary got huffy over Audrey saying she had a difficult year, but she was looking for offense when none was intended. Her attitude wasn’t reasonable.
It’s objectively true that she’s had a hard year. After losing George Sr. on Young Sheldon Season 7 Episode 11, she’s struggled.
Having a hard time doesn’t make you weak or fragile, and it was annoying that Mary took Audrey’s comment that way.
Still, this was a testament to the writing. Making one woman the bad guy, then the other, is not easy to pull off.
It’s easy to fall into the trap of making a story like this one-sided, with one woman being the clear antagonist who we’re supposed to hate.
Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage didn’t make that mistake. Mary and Audrey were both in the wrong, in different ways, which made the episode more interesting.

At Its Heart, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Is About Blending Two Imperfect Families
Every episode of Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage so far has been about how these two families adjust to being one after Georgie accidentally comes into Mandy’s life.
Audrey dislikes Georgie, and some of her reasons are petty while others are more understandable.
But she has to try to make it work for her daughter’s sake, and more often than not, when she fails Mandy ends up caught in the middle.
That’s why I’m both surprised and not surprised that this petty argument was such a big deal for Georgie and Mandy.
The couple is feeling their way through family conflicts, and all they know is how they’ve dealt with their families when they were on their own.
Random Thoughts About Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Season 1 Episode 10
- Connor is back to being a supporting character, but that was okay this time because this story wasn’t about him. Hopefully, in upcoming episodes, he’ll have more to do than watch Jay Leno, blissfully unaware of the drama around him.
- I loved the Missy reference. I hope she returns soon.
- Pastor Jeff’s cameo was great. I didn’t have much use for him on Young Sheldon, but he added some humor at the perfect time here.
- There were no scenes at the tire shop with Reuben, and I can’t say I missed him.
