Armie Hammer says he’s selling his truck because he can’t afford the gas

Armie Hammer is trading in his truck for a more wallet-friendly-size vehicle.

The Social Network actor has relocated to Los Angeles, the city where he was born, in the last two weeks and explained his decision Tuesday in an Instagram post.

“Since being back in L.A., I have put about four or five hundred dollars worth of gas in it,” Hammer said of his truck. “And I can’t afford it. I can’t afford the gas anymore.”

Hammer, the great-grandson of 1950s oil tycoon Armand Hammer, said he’s found less expensive transportation.

“I got a new car,” he revealed. “It’s tiny. It’s a hybrid. I’m probably gonna put about 10 bucks of gas in it a month.”

Still, he lamented the loss of the truck, which holds sentimental value: bringing his two kids home from the hospital, camping trips, and cross-country road trips. Hammer said he purchased it as a gift for himself in 2017.

The last road trip was taking the vehicle to CarMax, a company that buys used cars. He noted that the post was “not an ad for CarMax.”

The Call Me By Your Name star explained that he had “loved this truck intensely,” but it was necessary.

“I just keep telling myself that parking is gonna be easier and gas is gonna be cheaper,” he said.

Hammer turns 39 on Aug. 28, which he mentioned: “I will be starting my birthday with a new car, a new apartment, a new life….”

Hammer’s last movie was Death on the Nile, which was released in theaters in 2022. Beginning in 2021, the actor faced accusations of rape, abuse, and cannibalism. He denied wrongdoing, maintaining that what went on in his relationships was consensual. Los Angeles officials investigated him, but the district attorney’s office declined to file charges.

Hammer subsequently split with his former wife, Elizabeth Chambers.

In June, the actor opened up about the scandal in an interview on his friend Tyler Ramsey’s Painful Lessons podcast.

“I’m actually now at a place where I’m really grateful for it, because where I was in my life before all of that stuff happened to me, I didn’t feel good,” Hammer said. “I never felt satisfied. I never had enough. I never was in a place where I was happy with myself where I had self-esteem. I never knew how to give myself love. I never knew how to give myself self-validation, but I had this job where I was able to get it from so many people that I never had to learn how to give it to myself.”
