Anna and Elsa? More like Anya and Elsa, thank you very much.
Emmy-nominated Queen’s Gambit actress and Furiosa movie star Anya Taylor-Joy has revealed that she’d like to join the lineage of Disney royals — particularly as Elsa if the studio ever decides to fund a live-action remake of its beloved Frozen animated movie.
“I would love to do a musical because I’m a bit addicted to hard work. I like having an impossible mountain to climb. The idea of having to be able to sing, dance, and act at the same time would just really thrill me,” the 28-year-old self-admitted studio fan said in a new interview with Vogue Hong Kong, in response to a question about her dream Disney role.
She continued, singling out the Frozen series as one she’d like to perform in if she ever got the chance to lead a live-action musical movie.

“I think Frozen would be pretty great. It would be very fun to shoot ice out of your hand,” she added, referencing Elsa’s ability to harness the power of ice throughout both Frozen movies so far. “Also, you’d just be the favorite at every kid’s birthday party. All of my siblings have children now, so I would love for them to be able to say, ‘My auntie is Elsa.’ That would be pretty sick.”
Lightly adapted from Hans Christian Andersen’s Snow Queen fairy tale, the first Frozen movie debuted in 2013, and followed a young princess, Anna (voiced by Kristen Bell), who sets out on a journey to bring her sister, Queen Elsa (Idina Menzel, who sang the song’s Oscar-winning signature tune “Let It Go”), back to the Kingdom of Arendelle after her icy powers make her an outcast in society.
To date, both Frozen films have grossed over $2.7 billion at the global box office, and inspired other franchise offshoots — including several rides and attractions at Disney parks around the world. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly at the grand opening of Hong Kong Disneyland’s World of Frozen themed area, Frozen film director Jennifer Lee teased that the park was “going to need” more room to expand, because “there’s a lot more story coming” in future Frozen movies.
Disney CEO Bob Iger additionally announced in November 2023 that Frozen 3 and 4 were officially in the works. Iger said at the time that he didn’t “have much to say about those films” currently, but confirmed that Lee was “hard at work with her team at Disney Animation on not one but actually two stories” to continue the series into the future.

While a live-action Frozen remake has yet to be announced, the possibility isn’t out of the question, as Disney has brought its classic animated stories back for a new generation with recent live-action blockbusters based on Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, Mulan, Aladdin, and The Little Mermaid released across the last decade.
