What happened with Anwar Ali?

Reports emerged that ace Indian defender Anwar Ali is on a move away from the Kolkata giants. The player joined the Mariners a year back on a loan deal from Delhi FC and his contract with Mohun Bagan runs till the summer of 2027. Delhi FC owner Ranjit Bajaj took to social media to claim that the player’s loan deal was terminated.

Bajaj claimed that as per the latest FIFA rules, no player can have a loan deal running longer than a year. As a result, he is re-integrated back into the Delhi FC squad. Bajaj claimed that the player will be eyeing a move back to ISL with 2 top teams ready to get the player.

Where does Mohun Bagan stand?

The Kolkata giants are in no way keen to let go of their player. Mohun Bagan claims that the player has a 5 year deal with the club and will remain with the Mariners. Furthermore, Mohun Bagan is also prepared for any legal battles that can ensue on this matter.

“When Anwar signed for us, the FIFA rule was not made. So, a new rule cannot be implied on an old contract. Our Federation is yet to implement this rule and we have a 5 year contract with the player, so Anwar stays with the club,” a senior Mohun Bagan official on terms of anonimity told InsideSport exclusively.

“We are prepared for any legal battles that can arise on this matter. Anwar is our player and will continue to remain with us,” the official concluded.
