Anthony Anderson tells Americans to ‘chill’ after Trump shooting

Anthony Anderson is asking for calm after the shooting at a Donald Trump campaign rally over the weekend.

The actor, who is filling in as guest host on Jimmy Kimmel Live for the week, reflected on the incident — which left two dead and the former president injured — during his expletive-ridden opening monologue on Monday.

“Everybody’s still shaken up by the tragic events at the Trump rally this Saturday. All weekend, I kept thinking, ‘I wonder what Jimmy Kimmel’s gonna say about this on Monday,’” Anderson explained. “And then I was like, ‘Oh s—! I am Jimmy Kimmel on Monday.’”

Trump was delivering a speech in Butler, Pa., on Saturday when a shooter “fired multiple shots toward the stage from an elevated position outside of the rally venue,” the Secret Service said in a statement. The individual, who was killed by Secret Service personnel, shot the former president in the right ear, killed one spectator, and left two critically injured.

Anderson paid tribute to those affected on the show. “In all seriousness, I do wanna say that our thoughts are with the families of the victims,” he said. “And that, hopefully, this will be a moment that we can all take a step back from the hatred and vitriol in our politics and maybe chill the f— out.”

He also offered a tip for how to shine on the current political climate. “By the way, if you want to maintain your sanity during this crazy time, do not go on the internet,” Anderson added. “There are insane conspiracies popping up on both sides.”
