Ang Lee’s Next Movie ‘Old Gold Mountain’ Pushes Production Start Date

EXCLUSIVE: Ang Lee‘s next film Old Gold Mountain is pushing its production start date sources close to the project have told Deadline. Insiders say Lee is still finessing some creative elements to the shoot and since the production is shooting in northern California, sources say the shoot dates are pushing to next spring.

The film is an adaptation of C. Pam Zhang’s debut novel How Much of These Hills Is Gold. Chang-rae Lee penned the movie adaptation, which tells the journey of two orphaned immigrants.

The 2020 novel follows Lucy and Sam, newly orphaned children of immigrants who suddenly are alone in a land that refutes their existence. Fleeing the threats of their western mining town, they set off to bury their father in the only way that will set them free from their past. Along the way, they encounter giant buffalo bones, tiger paw prints, the specter of a ravaged landscape as well as family secrets, sibling rivalry and glimpses of a different kind of future.

Fifth Season and the Ink Factory are producing.

Best known for his Oscar-winning work on Brokeback MountainLife of Pi and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Lee is developing a biopic about Bruce Lee.
