Amidst Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s euphoria, LSG quietly register a comeback-from-behind victory
Despite the solid batting efforts by Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Yashasvi Jaiswal, RR succumbed to a two-run defeat.
So, 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi came into his first ever IPL match, and batted like he always belonged here. Even before getting his eye in, the RR opener smashed Shardul Thakur for a six on the very first delivery he faced, making it a story for remember for years to come. The southpaw, perhaps on a break from school, toyed with bowlers almost twice his age, and went on to hit three sixes and two fours in his innings of 34 from 20. To cut the long story short, it was just the most important event of the match.

Yet, in the context of the tournament; LSG, much to the surprise of everyone, notched a win when no one expected them to. The Rishabh Pant-led side tasted success for the fifth time in the tournament, as they successfully defended 181, and won by a narrow two runs only. After remaining on the back foot for 90% of the match, the team staged a remarkable comeback, and gave only 30 runs in the last four overs, to deny Riyan Parag’s team.
Lucknow Super Giants now move to the fourth position in the IPL 2025 points table, with five wins in eight matches, while RR stay at eighth, with only two wins. After being set a below-par target, RR never really had a problem in getting past the finish line, until Avesh Khan came an thwarted their plans in the last over, defending nine runs.

RR, who were once cruising at 161/3 in 17.5 overs, lost the plot when Yashasvi Jaiswal (74) and Riyan Parag (39) departed in quick succession, leaving limited batting options with the team. Having said that, Jaiswal continued his brilliant form — he has struck four fifties in the last five matches.
Aiden Markram & Ayush Badoni 50s Save LSG
But in the end, it was a job well done by the LSG bowlers. Avesh, of course was the star for them, as he returned with figures of 3/37. Digvesh Singh Rathi was excellent too with his 0/30, while Ravi Bishnoi supported with 0/19 in his three. Earlier in the day, it was a bit of a batting flop show for LSG as well. Rishabh Pant (3) returned to being poor with the bat, while orange cap holder for IPL 2025, Nicholas Pooran disappointed with 8-ball 11.
Other star in the team, Mitchell Marsh (4), also failed to make an impression. What really brought semblance to their batting outing was, Aiden Markram scoring 66 from 45, and then Ayush Badoni, the impact sub, scoring 50 from 34. Luckily, for Sanjiv Goenka’s team, the unpredictable Abdul Samad fired 30 from 10.
