Mumbai skipper Ajinkya Rahane delivered a stunning performance in the Ranji Trophy quarterfinal against Haryana, scoring a century in the third innings on Tuesday. The Mumbai captain completed his century with 160 balls and featured 12 boundaries to put hi team in a strong position. This marks Rahane’s 41st First-Class century, helping his team gain a lead of over 300 runs plus against Haryana. Ajinkya got out after scoring 108 runs.

Leadership under pressure

Rahane’s captaincy proved crucial as Mumbai faced early challenges, losing two quick wickets before reaching 50 runs in their second innings. Another wicket fell just before the 100-run mark. Batting at number four, Rahane steadied the ship, guiding Mumbai through these setbacks and setting a new course for the innings.

Partnerships boost Mumbai’s position

Rahane formed an important partnership with Suryakumar Yadav, adding 129 runs for the fourth wicket. Yadav contributed 70 runs off 86 balls before getting out. Following Yadav’s exit, Shivam Dube joined Rahane to continue boosting the team’s total, during which Rahane scored his century.

In the match’s first innings, Rahane scored 31 off 58 balls. Mumbai posted 315 runs, aided by Tanush Kotian’s 97 and Shams Mulani’s 91. In response, Haryana scored 301, with Ankik Kumar achieving a century. Shardul Thakur’s 6-wicket haul ensured Mumbai a 14-run lead by the end of the first innings.
