People are only just realising what Elmlea is actually made of and it’s blowing their minds.

Jade Stanley, from Lancashire, who posts on TikTok as @northern_jade, took to the social media platform to admit she is shocked that she is only discovering what Elmlea is at 32-years-old. 

In a clip, which racked up over 180,000 views, she revealed that Elmlea Double is not actually cream. 

When you look at the ingredients you may be surprised to find it’s made up of buttermilk, vegetable oils, lactose, emulsifiers and stabilisers. 

She fummed: ‘I am deeply horrified and saddened to let you all know that this’, holding up the product she added: ‘is not cream. At all.

‘Not even in the slightest, not even a slight bit of cream is in this. I’ll tell you what is in this. It it’s made out of a blend of buttermilk and vegetable oils. A deliciously creamy taste – not cream. My life has been a lie.’

Many people rushed to the comments who were equally in shock at the revelation. 

One person said: ‘I’ve only just noticed that is says Alternative to Cream on it, 32 years and I never knew.’

Another said: ‘Well every day is a school day! 39 years old and only learnt this today.’

Elsewhere someone wrote:  ‘Oh no way!! I always thought this was cream’  

However others claimed they already knew the product wasn’t cream and were baffled how some weren’t aware. 

One person wrote: ‘I’ve known this for the past 30 years. A good indication is the labelling in the front of the carton.’ 

Another said: ‘Only shocking part is people NOT knowing this.’

While someone else wrote: ‘Why would you think it’s cream though? It doesn’t claim to be cream. I perplexed that people think it is cream.’

In a clip, she said: ‘How old were you when you realised, this isn’t actually double cream, it’s an alternative to cream, what the heck!’

According to the website, it also lasts longer than your average cream. The product description reads: ‘Elmlea stays fresher for longer, over the double the shelf life of dairy cream (before and after opening).

‘Elmlea Double is our multipurpose cream alternative – whip it up for desserts, pour over pudding or stir in to sauces or pasta to further enrich your cooking.’
