Who is Anshul Kamboj? CSK pacer who can make Test debut in 4th Test after India call-up

Anshul Kamboj has reportedly been added to India’s squad for the fourth Test match against England in Manchester
India have called up 24-year-old fast bowler Anshul Kamboj into the squad for the 4th Test against England, following injury concerns for both Arshdeep Singh and Akash Deep. With the five-match series tilted 2-1 in England’s favour, this could be a golden opportunity for the young Chennai Super Kings (CSK) pacer to make his Test debut at Old Trafford. Although the addition hasn’t been made official so far, Kamboj’s brother confirmed the development to the media as well.

Maiden BCCI call-up for Anshul Kamboj
According to reports, Arshdeep Singh sustained a deep cut on his hand during training and is expected to be out for at least 10 days, while Akash Deep is recovering from a groin niggle from the Lord’s Test match. This has opened the door for Kamboj, who had impressed during India A’s tour of England last month, picking up five wickets in three matches with lively spells at Northampton and Canterbury.
The selectors have taken note of his red-ball promise. According to a BCCI source quoted in The Indian Express, “The selectors have decided to add Kamboj in the squad. He had a decent outing in England and is being seen as a handy replacement.”
Deserving call-up fo Kamboj
Hailing from Karnal, Kamboj made national headlines earlier this year when he claimed all 10 wickets in an innings during a Ranji Trophy clash against Kerala. Thus becoming only the sixth Indian to do so in first-class cricket. He ended the Ranji season with 34 wickets from six matches.
Kamboj, who made his first-class debut for Haryana in 2022, was also part of India A’s squad for the Emerging Men’s Asia Cup and played a key role in Haryana’s Vijay Hazare Trophy triumph, where his economy of 4.56 was the best among all the pacers. For those unaware, Kamboj made his IPL debut while representing the Mumbai Indians (MI). However, the next season, MI had to let him go due to mega auction dynamics.
At the IPL 2025 mega auction, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) snapped him up for ₹3.40 crore. He repaid the faith by taking 8 wickets in 8 matches, with coach Stephen Fleming praising his control and swing. Anshul Kamboj’s red-ball journey could hit a new high in Manchester, as he stands on the brink of a potential Test debut.
