4 Nations Face-Off clinching scenarios: How Canada can reach final vs. USA
The final day of round-robin action at the 4 Nations Face-Off has a lot left to be determined.
The U.S. has booked a spot in Thursday’s final but will have to wait for a few scenarios to play out before figuring out who its opponent is.
The action starts on Monday with Canada taking on Finland. Depending on how the game plays out, both teams have a clear path to the final.
Then Sweden will look to earn its first win at the 4 Nations Face-Off and it could end up being a critical matchup, depending on how Canada-Finland shakes out.
If Canada defeats Finland in regulation, then it clinches a spot in the final. Canada can also get in by beating Finland in overtime or shootout and if Sweden does not earn a regulation win over the United States.
Finland faces an identical path to Canada to reach the final, meaning it has to win Monday afternoon’s game in regulation. If Finland wins in overtime or shootout, then it’ll need anything but a regulation win by Sweden against the U.S.
For Sweden, the only way they reach the final is by beating the U.S. in regulation but that only matters if Canada-Finland is decided in overtime or a shootout.
