25-year-old resident notices neighbor’s cat is pregnant, decides to take her in after neighbor claims the cat is a stray, resulting in resident keeping the 7 kittens: ‘I wasn’t planning on it’
Anyone who always keeps an eye out for stray cats in need of a home understands how challenging it can be to distinguish between a stray cat and an outdoor cat with owners. While it can be easy to do so if a cat is sporting a fashionable collar, cats are also known to be ungovernable little hooligans who are not above removing their collars the second they get the chance.
So the question remains–how do you know if the friendly cat you keep seeing around your neighborhood already has someone who looks after it?
Unfortunately, there is no straight answer to this question, so you have to live and learn, usually through trial and error. Knock on doors asking if anyone owns the fur ball currently out and about, take the feisty feline to the vet to check for a microchip, or even take the cat in and see if anyone comes to look for it.
If no one claims it, then you can move on with your plans to adopt the hissterical cat, which is exactly what the lovely resident did with her pregnant neighborhood cat and her six little kittens!
