No one likes going to the doctor. It’s not a daily routine task like going to the supermarket, and it’s certainly not exciting like going out. Going to the doctor means tests and cold hands at least, and in worse cases – shots and painful, pricey procedures.
Getting our pets to the vet, or our children to the pediatrician is much harder. They’re happy to go the first time: “Yay, a trip with pawrent!” but when they get the gist, that’s it. No more hopping into the car. Now they’re suspicious. Something in their complete trust has cracked, the innocence is gone. They’re looking at us with a sad, betrayed gaze that will leave a mark forever. The first time is traumatizing for the child, yet it’s much more traumatizing for the pawrent. Watching your baby suffer, and knowing you did this – for their benefit, sure, but still gut-wrenching.
Let’s pray to the gods of AI to quickly develop a robot that can detect medical issues without needles or cuts. We will take our cat for instance, and be greeted by a robot with a friendly familiar face (digitally inserted). Then he will scan our cat to the sounds of light music.
