General Hospital’s Amanda Setton Proved She Deserves An Emmy Nod After Adoption Storyline
General Hospital’s Amanda Setton deserves applause after her performance as May sweeps wrapped up.
Hopefully, she is ready to put some of those clips into a reel to submit for a Daytime Emmy nod.
Amanda has been heavily criticized for portraying Brook Lynn Quartermaine on ABC’s General Hospital.
The actress worked with Frank Valentini on One Life to Live, so when she came to General Hospital, some viewers thought Amanda was just another of Frank’s pets being given a legacy role.
However, that wasn’t the case, and Amanda now isn’t the scantily-dressed Kim she played on OLTL, either.
She has proven herself repeatedly, and with the latest storyline, no one can deny she belongs in the role of Brook Lynn Quartermaine.

Amanda Setton Deserves An Emmy For Her Work
Amanda Setton has proven her acting chops, but the recent storyline highlighted her range of emotions and authentic storyline-driven actions.
In the beginning, Brook Lynn getting pregnant as a teen with Dante’s baby was a questionable storyline.
It wasn’t warmly received, though some opinions have changed over the last several months.
As the pieces began to fall into place, Amanda was able to capture each moment as though she were the one dealing with the guilt of giving up her baby without even telling the father.
Gio, being the son she shares with Dante, was another level of surprise, perfectly played in her reactions.

The scenes highlighted anger, sorrow, and remorse as the fallout of actions taken over 20 years ago wreaked havoc in Port Charles.
Amanda deserved a Daytime Emmy nomination for the scenes that aired as May sweeps wrapped.
All of the time and preparation General Hospital’s Amanda Setton put into those scenes deserves recognition, if not the win itself.

General Hospital’s Amanda Setton Faced An Uphill Battle With Viewers
General Hospital viewers (myself included) didn’t give Amanda Setton a chance when she was hired to play legacy character Brook Lynn Quartermaine.
However, she grew on me, and after the adoption storyline, she cemented her place on the show.
There have been several complaints about her since 2019, when she first arrived on the scene.
Comments about her wardrobe and choices about love scenes remain hot topics of conversation on Soap Twitter and message boards. However, her convictions shouldn’t outweigh her acting abilities.
Amanda’s ability to work with the “stars” of the show without blinking also highlights her adaptability.

Her work with Jane Elliot (Tracy Quartermaine) is flawless. The two can banter without missing a beat, which isn’t easy for less-talented actors.
Having her parents, Wally Kurth and Rena Sofer, on General Hospital was like hitting the jackpot. Amanda’s wealth of acting knowledge has likely helped her along the way.
I suspect the coming weeks will also heavily feature Amanda and her varying emotions as the Quartermaines, Falconeris, and Corinthos families adjust to Gio being a part of their family in a way no one expected.

The critics will likely continue to call Amanda out for her wardrobe and boundaries.
Still, she is working hard to deliver powerful performances, and that’s much more important — to me at least.
