Let’s face it: There just aren’t a lot of quiet, thoughtful meditations on human nature featuring a lot of nice conversations at the top of the box office these days. If you want to sell a movie, it’s gotta have some action. Superheroes throwing skyscrapers at each other, shootouts between rival mafiosos or at least some lunkheads playing real-life bumper cars.
Rarely do you ever just see two dudes having a good old-fashioned brawl, probably because it’s inherently not nearly as exciting. In the hands of the right, well, hands, however, a fist or sword or vase fight can be just as thrilling as any superhero showdown. Redditor TheNastyRepublic cited a scene from Bruce Lee’s The Way of the Dragon as one such example.
They then asked r/Film, “What’s the most iconic hand-to-hand fight scene in movie history?” and those proved to be fighting words to their fellow Redditors — in all the right ways, of course.
