The Manchester United academy graduate is on loan with Premier League side Nottingham Forrest and has registered 20 appearances in the English top flight this season. However, his thigh injury in January has derailed his progress, resulting in Steve Cooper’s side bringing Keylor Navas from PSG on loan until the end of the season. The Forrest is hopeful of the signing of Henderson permanently given they retain their top-flight status this term.
On the other hand, Tottenham Hotspur has been regularly linked with Henderson, as Spurs prepare for their life after veteran Hugo Lloris.
Henderson is under contract until 2025 and refused the chance to hold talks with the United boss Erik Ten Hag last summer, furthermore turned down the manager’s proposal following a phone conversation to cut short his Forrest stay to return to Old Trafford in January. The Red Devils released the goalie Martin Dabravka to return to Newcastle United and were without a third goalkeeper at the time, to which Ten Hag wanted Henderson’s return.
The shot-stopper rejected his return to swap his starting place at Forrest to warming benches at Manchester United. United eventually bought Jack Butland, who is yet to make an appearance since joining in January.

In August, Henderson gave a fiery interview with talkSPORT, as he criticized the club and described being benched the previous season as ‘criminal’ behavior and claimed he received ‘false promise’ over becoming the No.1 goalkeeper at United. He reveals, ‘The conversation I had coming out of that Euros squad was ‘ you’re coming back here to be the number one goalkeeper’. I got Covid, come back, I should have still been the number one, but unfortunately, no-one followed through with anything they told me.’
He added, ‘It was frustrating because I turned down so many good loans last summer for that reason and they wouldn’t let me go. So, it was frustrating. To sit there and waste 12 months, it’s criminal really at my age.’
Speaking back in December, Ten Hag said the club will wait to decide Henderson’s future, stating, ‘During the season, when the season is coming to an end, we will take a decision and that depends on a lot of factors. He is playing really well at Nottingham Forest,’
