Biz Markie, the rapper behind the 1989 hit “Only a Buddy,” died at age 57 on Friday, July 16, E! Information confirms.
“It’s with profound disappointment that we announce, this night, together with his spouse Tara by his aspect, Hip Hop pioneer Biz Markie peacefully handed away,” his spokesperson advised E! Information in an announcement on July 16.
“We’re grateful for the numerous calls and prayers of assist that we have now acquired throughout this tough time,” the assertion went on. “Biz created a legacy of artistry that may without end be celebrated by his trade friends and his beloved followers whose lives he was capable of contact by way of music, spanning over 35 years.”
He is survived by his spouse of over 15 years, in addition to his relations and shut pals, “who will miss his vibrant character, fixed jokes and frequent banter,” per his rep. “We respectfully request privateness for his household as they mourn their liked one.”
A household supply advised TMZ that Biz died at a hospital in Baltimore, Md., following problems with diabetes.
