It’s not enough for a thriller or action movie to be all thrill or action. If it was all car chases, all the time, it wouldn’t be a movie, it would be a YouTube compilation. Watching our hero not just navigate danger but go from cool and collected to realizing they’re even in it is possibly more satisfying than even the most destructive car chase.
Redditor PooleBoy_Q agrees. “I’ve always loved this scene (from Training Day) where Jake Hoyt is suddenly starting to realize he’s in danger and that Alonzo set him up,” they told r/Film. “The tension and build-up to the climax is perfect and immediately followed by the plot twist bathtub scene. I’d personally give this scene a 10/10.”
They then asked, “What is the best scene where the protagonist realizes they are in danger?” and their fellow Redditors provided a significantly large danger zone in return.
