Charli XCX Slams Boomer Criticism of Autotune at Glastonbury

Charli XCX is gonna keep bumpin’ regardless of what you think.

After taking the stage for her headlining performance at the Glastonbury music festival June 28, the “365” singer addressed critics who took issue with her use of autotune.

“really enjoying these boomer vibe comments on my glastonbury performance,” Charli, 32, wrote on X June 29. “it’s super fascinating to me.”

Defending her decision not to perform with a full band, Charli added, “like the idea that singing with deliberate autotune makes you a fraud or that not having a traditional band suddenly means you must not be a ‘real artist’ is like, the most boring take ever. yawn sorry just fell asleep xx.”

But please, keep the comments coming.

“to be honest… i enjoy the discourse,” she added. “imo the best art is divisive and confrontational and often evolves into truly interesting culture rather than being like kind of ok, easily understood and sort of forgettable.”
