An ongoing outbreak of measles in Texas has so far hospitalized 18 people and infected 106 others, state officials say. One death was confirmed on Feb. 26 by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS). The deceased was a school-age child who was not vaccinated and was hospitalized in Lubbock last week.

As of Feb. 25, 124 cases of measles have been reported in the South Plains region in northwest Texas since late January, according to a statement from DSHS. Five of the cases occurred in people who had been vaccinated against the disease, while the rest affected people who are unvaccinated or whose vaccination status is unknown.
